Biography

I was born 1979 in Borås, Sweden.

The story began back in 1987 when I was 8 years old. I followed a classmate home after school and we sneaked into his big brothers room and listened to Future World by Helloween. It was my first introduction to metal music and I was totally blown away. I had never heard anything like it before and from that day I decided that I’m going to be a guitar player. After some convincing I got my mother to buy me an electric guitar and ended up with a white Lorenzo. A real piece of shit guitar but to me it was the start of everything.

I started taking some private lessons when I was about 10 years old. Learned the usual stuff like Smoke on the Water, some Kiss and Iron Maiden. My favourite band back then was Iron Maiden.

Around 1991 something happened that had a major impact on my life. I was at another friends house and he got this CD called Odyssey by a Swedish guitar player called Yngwie Malmsteen. I couldn’t believe my ears. What kind of witchcraft was this?! I had to learn more about this guitar wizard. That’s when I started to discover other guitarists like Jason Becker, Steve Vai, Tony Macalpine, Shawn Lane and all the other guitar heroes at Shrapnel. I fell in love with the neoclassic genre.

Before internet

The problem back then was that we didn’t have internet. I hade to save up my money and when I had enough I went to a store in Gothenburg where they sold instructional videos on VHS. I bought everything I could afford. Frank Gambale, Shawn Lane, John Petrucci, Michael Romeo the list goes on forever. I bought a new video every month and practiced it over and over again.

I started a band with some friends when I was about 12 years old. I think we sounded pretty strange with a mix of punk, doom, heavy and death metal. Luckily those demo tapes have been destroyed.

I didn’t go in any music school. I’m mostly self taught but I did take a few private lessons during the years. When I was around 25 years old I took some lessons from a jazz guitarist, that was a thrilling experience and an eye opener.

Influences

There are tons of good bands and musicians out there but if I’d have to mention some I would start with Yngwie because he is the reason I started practicing like hell in the first place. I still listen to his earlier stuff now and then.

Other guitar players that has had a really big impact on me is Jason Becker, John Petrucci and Michael Romeo. They all have something unique about them in my opinion.

To be honest I really don’t listen much to other bands these days. While growing up I listened a lot to Iron Maiden. One songwriter I really think is a genius is Arjen Lucassen. Especially his project Ayreon. The last album I bought was in fact a signed copy of The Source by Ayreon.

Discography

Freternia – Warchants & Fairytales. Recorded 1999 at Studio Mega, released on LNP Records. After our debut album I decided to leave the band but Freternia carried on and released a second album called A Nightmare Story on Arise Records.

Cromonic – Time. Recorded and released 2017 by Cromonic Music.

At the moment I’m working on 2 albums. Freternias third album and Cromonics next album. Both are planned to be released in 2018. I also plan to release an instrumental solo album, something that I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember.
